That’s probably it then. Post as a guest Name. I’m guessing my is not ml3940 LDO as that works fine with no load or caps. Use a switching regulator capable of providing a negative output. How can you expect the regulator to work without supplying a reference to it’s gnd?

Vout seems to be Vin – X but X changes based on Vin. By continuing to use this site, you are consenting to our use of cookies. I wanted to use the same to make They just require two capacitors to make a fairly regulated output voltage opposite polarity of their input voltage.

I’m new at it so I’m gonna make mistakes Is this something to do with the LM? You can use any value of output capacitance on the LM so long as it is 33uF or more.

Lm39440 load, no capacitors. I thought they were optional i. The problem is it seems 33uF is too big for an capacitor LM minimum load current.

Thread starter radiodude Start date Apr 8, In the schematic the top circuit works fine lmm3940 I get 3. The capacitors are generally needed to stabilize the regulator and prevent it from oscillating.

As the comments suggest, you can’t produce a negative voltage from a simple linear regulator like that, unless you supply them with a negative voltage to begin with.

I got a bunch of LM to convert 5V to 3. I am posting them so you will know where the information came from. Thanks, mvs sarma; didn’t think of that.

The LM do not, as they are linear regulators. I’ve used other caps as well like 10uF, 47uF and even uF and they all give relatively the same Vout with and without load!

Eventually both aspects will be there, but I’m soldering piece by piece and just verifying voltages. How to create dashed plot in Octave? I’m having a hard time finding a 33uF packaged capacitor.
