I have Copleston’s entire 9 volume History of Philosophy set and Bertrand Russell’s entertaining History of Western Philosophy but decided to begin my return to modern philosophy with Scruton for a couple of reasons. I was less enamoured of the parts covering Hegel and Phenomenology, as they were less insightful for me, but then perhaps this may be because they are quite impenetrable without lots more work.
