Faustino Santos, a butcher friend, becomes suspicious and reports the threat to the policeman, Leandro Pornoy. Thanks for telling us about the problem. As this is my first taste of his writing, I can sense the similarities- many characters in a Latin American village, the opening sentences containing flashbacks, and a high level of magical realism.
El masclisme es fa evident en tota l’obra. I get the feeling that these are not the sentiments of qnunciada author himself though, and that at the end, he is left with the same rage of helpless incomprehension; which is yet subtly laced with a certain fatalistic acceptance, that he leaves the reader with.
Clotilde wants “to spare those poor boys from the horrible duty” and tries to convince Colonel Aponte to investigate further so they can be stopped. I bit my fingers down to my elbow for how everyone in the small hamlet in a series of perfectly aligned incidents got wind of the murder plan and yet nobody took it serious enough to warn the victim till the last moment when it was too late, when he was too anuniada wounded to take stock of the warnings that came pouring in as the butcher’s knife transpierced the soft mass of his belly.

I’ve just re-read this novel; and I’ve just remembered why it stuck with me after reading it the first time. Una novela corta muy bien escrita, no le sobra ni le falta nada. The story is like one of the movies where nothing makes sense until the end, and you have to follow the narrative closely so as not to get lost.
At the start of his investigation the author sets out to seek answers as to the “why” the death happened. I am ce aware I am babbling right now, but I just wish you could just give this book a ee. If the virginity of a woman before marriage was not so great in this small remote Caribbean village, if Angela had not lied about the identity of the official, if she had confessed to her future husband that she was not a virgin, if someone had warned Nasar if he had anunciadx in the morning instead of getting up early to catch sight of the bishop’s boat passing the river behind the village This novel used one of the rarely used ways.
